In this age of digitization making sure your files are secured, up-to-date, and backed up means a lot.
But doing a backup of your files is a tedious process for some and simple for the rest. It is an important task to do even if you think that your computer doesn’t hold any important files.
So to make backupping of your files much simpler let’s use a third-party software.
Yes you can backup your files by just copying all of it into a spare harddrive. But using a tool to make it much simplier is the best way to go. Not only that, you can also schedule when the software backups your files.
So let’s use the AOMEI Backupper Free Edition software.
AOMEI Backupper Software
AOMEI Backupper is a backup utility software designed for Windows PC systems and Windows Server systems.
It can create a backup of your selected files, your Steam folder containing all your games, your Windows system, a partition, or the whole disk itself.
All of these can be done in its simple and easy to understand user interface.
Aside from the basic feature of restoring the backups you’ve created there are a slew of features that you can use too.
Like creating a schedule for the software to create a backup of your files. Though this is pretty much basic another feature tied up to this is you can choose what type of backup to schedule like full backup, incremental backup, and differential backup.
A full backup just means it will create another full backup of your selected files/folder or partition.
While an incremental backup will only create a backup of the portion of your files/folders or partition that has changed since the preceding backup copy. Restoring an incremental backup you would need the full backup copy plus all the incremental backup copies.
If you’ve scheduled to do a daily or weekly incremental backup, you can then merge these incremental backups into one by using the “Merge Images” function of the AOMEI Backupper. But this is only available on PRO versions.
And lastly for differential backup, the backup created will be of the portion of your files/folders or partition that has changed since the last full backup. Restoring a differential backup you’ll only need the full backup copy and the latest differential backup.
Though for the AOMEI Backupper, the differential backup feature is only available starting with the PRO version.
After creating a backup image in AOMEI Backupper, you can view its contents by using the “Explore Image” function. This allows you to look into the files and folders inside a backup image without restoring it.
At the same time you can also check the integrity of a backup image you’ve created. This is a neat feature to note as the AOMEI Backupper can do its job even when you have running applications on the background. So its a welcome feature to check the integrity of your backup copies easily.
While creating backups is great, it wouldn’t do much good if your Windows system is rendered inoperable due to a virus. So the ability to create a bootable media is also a handy feature which the AOMEI Backupper has.
Just run the “Create Bootable Media” and follow instructions.
Another feature that is worth nothing is the clone function. You can clone the disk, your Windows system, or a partition. The System Clone is only available starting with the PRO version.

Fast backup performance
I just wanted to touch a bit on its performance based on a simple test that I ran using the AOMEI Backupper software.
The test employs backing up a folder containing 14GB of various files under various degrees of sub-folders. I even have zip files underneath it as well as images and some video files.
The objective was to see how fast is the AOMEI Backupper in creating backups.
And the results are rather intriguing to me. Yes it is fast but when I selected “High Compression“, the image file was still nearly the same at 13.9GB.
|Size of Source||Compression Level||Time it took||Backup Copy Size|
There might be flaws in my test but at least I can say that the AOMEI Backupper can backup your files with speed in mind.
So if you’d like to download the AOMEI Backupper, you can download it safely here:
- Fast backup.
- Easy and simple to understand UI.
- Custom settings are all a click away.
- Ability to view the contents of a backup image.
- Can perform backup or clone even when there are other applications running.
- Compression is not its strength.
- System Clone and other powerful features for paid version only.
