After that, we seldom look back at partitions and in general the hard drives (or SSDs) themselves. Not unless we ran out of storage space again.
So it’s no wonder that partition utilities aren’t just that popular or useful for the general computer users. But this is the opposite though for pc system builders and administrators.
As partition utilities like the Partition Assistant by AOMEI are very useful tools to have and work on.
So let’s take a quick look at the features of Partition Assistant from an ordinary computer user’s perspective.
Hard Disk Drive partitioning with Partition Assistant
Opening up the Partition Assistant and you’ll see a more robust disk management interface as compared to the Windows Disk Management Tool.
Everything you need to work on your hard disk drive are here on a simple easy to understand user interface.
If you want to migrate your OS to an SSD then it’s just a click away with the “Migrate OS to SSD” wizard.
Creating bootable media is also easy with the “Make Bootable Media” wizard.
On the main window your disk partitions are displayed grouped by disk and below it displays the disks present in your system and the partitions inside each disk.
It also displays how much of each partition is used and how much is free graphically.
So for a quick glance on all your hard disk drives and SSDs the Partition Assistant is already useful.
There are a lot of tools and features that can be used but I’ll focus on a few nifty features that is usually hard to find in Windows itself. So let’s start with the “Wipe Hard Drive” feature.
Wipe clean your hard disk drive
If you’re planning to sell your old HDDs or SSDs then it is prudent to make sure that you’ve wipe clean your hard drive before handing it to your buyer or to someone else.
And this feature from Partition Assistant, “Wipe Hard Drive” is all you need to wipe it clean.
Before clicking on the “Wipe Hard Drive”, be sure to click on the hard drive that you wanted cleaned.
Deleting a partition will also give you options in wiping the data on it.
For wiping the data, there are four (4) options to choose from:
- Fill sectors with Zero (Safe, Quick)
- Fill sectors with random data (Safe, Quick, PRO)
- DoD 52220.22-M (Very Safe, Slow, Pro)
- Gutmann (35 passes, Very Safe, Very Slow, PRO)
For the FREE version only the “Fill sectors with Zero” is available as the other three (3) methods are only available on the PRO version of Partition Assistant.
After you click the “Okay” button you’ll have to click the “Apply” button on the top-left of the GUI to proceed. And after that just sit back and relax.
A tool for SSDs is also available, the “SSD Secure Erase” which sadly is only available on the PRO version of the Partition Assistant.
More nifty tools!
Another great tool that the Partition Assistant has built-in is the “Disk Surface Test” which checks for bad sectors on your disk.
The “Check Partition” tool is the same as the disk surface test but this only checks for bad sectors on the selected partition.
Another great tool is the “Rebuild MBR” tool to fix your MBR disk errors without destroying any data.
There are a lot more tools in Partition Assistant that allows you to manage your disk easily.
Windows system has these built in!
Yes, I do agree that most or all of these tools or features are already in the Windows operating system. But what the Partition Assistant gives you is a way to access and use these tools easily.
Most average computer users wouldn’t know the specific command line parameters to delete a specific partition on a specific drive. Even making a bootable USB drive is a bit of a task for most average users.
Though working with partitions can be done using the Disk Management Tool in Windows, it is still slightly tasking. Much more that Microsoft is burying these tools/apps under their Windows Settings folder, though you can also just search it.
But in any case, the Partition Assistant is a great tool to have. It’s easy to understand interface and easy to access tools makes it more useful than what Windows offers.
